When: Saturday, February 12, 2011 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Location: American River, Sacramento CA (exact spot to be determined by water levels and fishing action)
Equipment Needed: Fishing license, waders, boots, sack lunch, drinks, and eye protection (glasses). Bill will provide ALL spey & switch rods (Sage), reels, lines, leaders, & flies.
Instructor: Bill Lowe - Bill has been providing fly fishing instruction and guide service for the past 20 years. Spey rod fishing and instruction has been a real passion of Bill’s over the past 10 years with steelhead, salmon, trout, and shad all being pursued with double handed rods. Bill has conducted many freshwater and saltwater instructional schools for Sage, and he is a featured instructor at the local area fishing shows (ISE & Pleasanton).
What You Will Learn: Are you thinking about wanting to learn to spey cast for steelhead with a two handed rod? Here is a fun way to scratch that itch and hopefully get your fly grabbed at the same time by some steelies. Spend the day learning the true effectiveness of spey-rod casting and fishing in the ultimate classroom ... on the water. Learn a switch cast, a snap-T, and a double-spey from either the river-right or river-left direction (and what all these silly terms mean). Cast Sage's line of Spey & Switch Rods in both the Traditional and European tapers (line-weights 6 through 9) and decide which best fits your style. The class size is limited to no more than eight casters, so that you get the one on one attention needed to fully utilize these incredible tools. Learn and work on the basic spey casts, and then we will put flies on our leaders and swing our flies in front of some steelies for a few grabs, and hopefully yell, FISH ON!
