If you are brand new to fly tying, this is the class to take! It’s also great practice on some classic patterns. (Wooly Worm, Gold-Ribbed Hare’s Ear, Deer Hair Caddis)

Equipment you will need to bring to first class: {vise, bobbin, thread (black, 6/0), bobbin threader, scissors, hackle pliers, bodkin, pencil}.   We also recommend (optional) a Rite bobbin (standard) which will make learning to tie a little easier. If you presently have none of this, email Bill Z. for recommendations. If you ask us early enough, we can order you a set (approx. $50-$80), or you can borrow a set (limited number).  BillZ@computer.org

SAN JOSE PROOF photoshopped

Flycasters was founded in 1965 - which made 2015 our Golden Anniversary.  In 1990 the club put out a commemorative 25 year book, and we thought it appropriate to celebrate our second 25 years.

Ken Imatani and Frank Eldredge have been working on this project for a number of months.  And the result is a fantastic full color 50th Anniversary publication. There are 16 articles which focus mainly on the past 25 years of Flycasters, Inc.

Your copy is waiting for you at the club meeting.  We handed out roughly 75 in December - Every member gets one free copy - (Yes ... Family memberships only get one copy) You simply sign your name and the issue is yours.

In the meantime you can look at the 50 Year magazine here on the website --- go to the File Sharing menu and open the Information About Our Club folder and download and read the Flycasters 50th Anniversary Magazine.

Flycasters is once again holding its Rod Building Seminar in the first part of the New Year.

The seminar will take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the Moreland Apts meeting room - each class will begin at 7:00pm and last a couple of hours - Cost is $20 per member for all six classes.

Learn how to choose components - how to find the "spine" of a blank - and how to assemble and finish your own fly rod.  Save money and custom build your own masterpiece.  See the November Flylines for details.

Rod Building Class 2011 019

And there will be a Fishout Planning Meeting on Wednesday - January 18th - 7:00pm - at the Moreland Apts meeting room.  Volunteer to be a fishmaster if you like or you can  make suggestions about where you think the club would have a good time fishing. The last few years the club has expanded its calendar of fishouts - we are going fishing more often and to a greater variety of destinations.
