On Saturday March 5th we are holding a local fishout to Shadow Cliffs in Pleasanton. This is a day trip, about 45-50 minute trip for most members. Shadow Cliffs is a Regional Park that holds a lake/compound that is spring fed, making it normally clearer in the Spring while other local waters are high & off-color. It holds Rainbow trout, Largemouth Bass, Black Crappie, Sunfish and Bluegill.
It does have limited shore access, so it fishes best from a small boat (electric motors only), kayak, pontoon or float tube but they are not required. If you use a personal watercraft a PDF is required! There is an entry fee per car, a launch fee and a daily fishing permit (along with your state license) totaling about $13 if you don’t carpool. All other details are on the web site under 2011 Fishout Information in the File Sharing page.
One new item we are adding to this fishout is a little competition. It is in the form of a photo contest. A Starbucks gift card will be given to the photo of the biggest fish caught on this fishout. To be eligible sign up by letting me know you will be going on this trip (email or at February meeting), bring your camera (or get your fishing partner to bring his) and email me the photos with measurements included. The winner will be chosen from all the entries and the photos will then be passed along to our Historian for use in the “Year in Review” slideshow in December.
This is a good fishout to satisfy that need to feel the tug and will not commit you to a long day or weekend to do so. I mention in the Info Sheet that no meals will be provided so bring your own food and drink. However, weather permitting, I will bring some briquettes and light up a BBQ if you want to bring something to cook on it for the midday break.
