Flycasters are again joining up with the Southern Oregon Fly Fishers for a fishout to Lava Lakes in Southern Oregon. Last year our members scattered out and fished the many lakes and streams in the region. Big & Little Lava Lakes held a lot of Rainbows and had afternoon hatches in the upper sections that provided a good number of fish.
Hosmer traditionally has large Brookies and land-locked Atlantic salmon and has a good number of Rainbow and Cutthroat. Everyone that fished Hosmer caught fish, and some members, landed multiple species of fish. In the 4 days of the fishout we had members on several streams, such as the Upper Deschutes, and most of the other area lakes such as East Lake and Crane Prairie.
Some of the fishing was better than others but we had catches ranging up to 18” with a couple reported at 24”-26”. Not shabby. (Read the fishing report in the August 2014 Flylines)
