Hi folks,

I'd like to paint ~10 chain-bead eyes at a time. What can I use to hold the eyes to paint/dry them?

Thanks,
- Albert

Never done it, never considered it, but that shouldn't be too difficult even for you! ;).
Offhand, take a length of kite string, knot it around the first bead of each chain, each some 4 inches apart, stretch the string of chains across a doorway with newspaper below, and have at it. Ignore the top bead or two- accept a little waste.

A heads up, unless you use a powder coat type paint (uses heat to fuse the color to bead chain), any paint you apply to bead chain will flake off very easily. I used the exact method described by Mr Aztec. I have found it's a useless exercise in paint chipping. Back when I had my fly shop, Wapsi used to have an anodized bead chain in a wide variety of colors, and I took those home with me to solve the problem! Since my fly shop is long gone, I have no idea who stocks Wapsi fly tying materials these days (maybe Mariott's in SoCal?).

I'll look into the powder paint method. Seems Bass Pro may carry some. I wonder if dabbing some epoxy on the eyes might help?

What's your goal in the exercise? -perhaps there's Another Way.

Nail polishes come in lots of colors and fluorescence, and might be worth investigating the colors for beadheads. That is why.
