Well, it finally happened. I screwed up so badly that I had to order a new blank, and part of the grip. I am building a travel spinning rod for Hawaii when I had accidentally installed the split grip on the 2nd to last section. I was able to salvage the foregrip and reelseat before the epoxy had set, but the rear grip and fighting butt of the split grip handle kit was set too long.

So, because the blank vendor couldn't just send me the section I needed (apparently the blanks are matched by ferrule fit), I had to order another blank. Also had to order the fighting butt and rear grip.

LESSON LEARNED: ALWAYS MARK YOUR BLANK AND DOUBLECHECK BEFORE INSTALLING HARDWARE.

You didn't state how many sections were in the blank, but I assume more than two --?? Since you had ruined the blank for its original purpose maybe you could have finished it off as a shorter, lighter weight, rod.

Or - Maybe the original tip section will fit your new blank and you can finish it off as an extra tip.

Jim,

It was a 4-piece blank. I had briefly thought about making a short heavy 3-pc spinning rod, but I couldn't think of any applications. I will likely use the tip piece for a spare finished tip, and the other pieces for demos at future rodbuilding classes.

Albert...bring the first blank to the pond tonight and let's put our heads together for a possible salvage attempt. Tom
