Vail Borne is the head guide and proprietor of “River Borne Outfitters”, a fly fishing guide service based out of Bend Oregon that offers half, full, and multi-day trips for trout and steelhead on the Deschutes and Crooked Rivers. With over twenty years of fly fishing experience, of which over a decade has been spent fishing in Central Oregon and on the Deschutes River, Vail has put his time in on the water. Vail equally enjoys the trout and steelhead fishing on the Deschutes and is well versed in single and two handed casting and casting instruction. Averaging over 500 river miles a season on the Deschutes, Vail has an intimate knowledge of these fabled waters. It has been said that some of Vail’s best attributes as a guide are his patience, and his ability to instruct, along with possessing a certain “fishy” sense that puts his clients onto fish.
Vail will be presenting a power point presentation on Fly Fishing the Deschutes River. The PPT begins with a brief historical overview of the area including the natural history, then focuses on the different seasons and angling opportunities on the Deschutes. Major hatches and trout fishing, steelhead run timing, specific equipment, flies, and some “do it your-self” tips are covered. The ppt also briefly talks about the Crooked River (a small tailwater East of Bend) and the guide trip options with River Borne Outfitters.
