Flycasters 50th Anniversary Banquet and Conservation Fundraiser

The year 2015 is the 50th Anniversary of Flycasters so it is appropriate we start the year’s celebration with the 50th Anniversary Banquet and Conservation Fundraiser on Saturday, January 31, 2015, the Flycasters biggest social event of the year.  Join your fellow Flycasters and guests for a party starting at 5:30 PM (one half hour earlier than last year) in the Cupertino Room at the Cupertino Quinlan Community Center at 10185 N Stelling Ave in Cupertino.

In 2015, it will be the fourth year the Flycasters Conservation Committee has hosted the annual banquet and the committee is hard at work to make this a special evening for all.  The event is open to members and their spouses, significant others, relatives, friends and others in the fly fishing community.  We encourage new members to come to meet your fellow Flycasters and win some fly fishing gear to get you started in the sport.  We will again have a hosted bar, appetizers, a delicious dinner prepared by Abby Huerta, a “Year in Review” showing by Gloria Page, a guest speaker, club awards and the fundraiser for conservation - all for the low price of $45 per person.

We are fortunate and honored to have Phil Greenlee, President of the International Federation of Fly Fishers (IFFF), as our guest speaker.  Phil is a former member of Flycasters and now living in Redding, CA.  Greenlee, a retired businessman and a committed fly fisher all of his adult life, has been president of IFFF since 2009. Founded in 1965, the IFFF has grown to 13,000 dues-paying members. In 2010, Phil was awarded IFFF's Federator of the Year Award.  He will have a Power Point presentation on the IFFF as well as fishing stories to tell us.

The awards ceremony will honor those who have offered exceptional service to the club during the year and the passing of the gavel on to our 2015 President, Dave Pellone.  Presentation of the “Angler of the Year” and the coveted “Broken Paddle” awards are a highlight of the evening.

During the evening, you will want to buy some raffle tickets and start silent auction bidding for those great fly fisher and non-fly fisher prizes.  To prepare for the fundraiser you will want to view the Prize List which will be posted on the Flycasters web site at: http://www.flycasters.org/file-sharing-test.html, select the “2015 Conservation Fundraiser” and then select “2015 Fundraiser Prize List.”  The Prize List will be undated as donations come in.

You won’t want to miss this once a year event, so buy your ticket now, as tickets are limited.  As an added incentive, if you and another sign up together by December 31, you will receive 20 free raffle tickets.  Remember, the banquet tickets are just $45 per person which includes all beverages and appetizers as well. To buy your tickets online, go to: http://www.flycasters.org/meetings/online-store.html, then select the number tickets and, using PayPal, you can make your payment.  Flycasters members can also buy tickets by completing the reservation form found in the Flylines and either send the form with your check or buy your tickets at the December or January club meeting.

Everyone is welcome to join the party!  The party will be even better if you are there!

Come spend the afternoon with us in the park. The park? It’s Los Gatos Creek Park on Saturday, August 23rd. The occasion? It’s a “no occasion” occasion, no fund raising or games. Just an old fashion barbeque with a few updates.

Here are the some details. We have reserved the pavilion. Dress is casual. Hors d’oeuvres and libations will be served for 2:00 until 4:00 and a full barbeque from 4:00 on. The menu will include tri-tips. chicken and ribs, salad and French bread.

There is a charge of $10.00 per person and advance reservations are a must. We will not be able to accommodate walk-ins as we must have a head count in advance.

A registration form is available in this issue of Flylines and will also be available at the July and August general meeting. Deadline for reservations August 13th.

Questions?  Call Jo Hood at 408-354-5320 or 408-499-5191.

July PROGRAM

Flycasters annual swap meet

Better than eBay because you can see it – hold it – examine it firsthand – even try it out.

Better than Craigslist because you don’t have to deal with strangers – we’re all friends.

Better than the Flea Market because it is ONLY fly fishing gear and that’s what you really want.

Doors open at 6:30pm – Wednesday – July 9th – at the Moreland Apts Meeting Room (our regular meeting room)

Inside the tables will be stocked with fly fishing gear, fly tying material, fly fishing clothes, flies and loads of other accessories that someone else wants to sell or trade and that you may or may not be able to live without.

“How do you know you don’t need it unless you come down and see for yourself?”

Bring your own “extra” stuff to sell or trade – no fees for displaying your gear.

Remember to bring some old sheets or blankets or some butcher paper to cover the tables so we don’t scratch them up – THIS IS A REQUIREMENT FOR DISPLAYING YOUR MERCHANDISE

The answer to the question “How many rods should a fly fisher own?” is__ ONE MORE
