As you all know, the 50th Anniversary Banquet and Conservation Fundraiser will be on January 31, 2015. The banquet organizing committee has agreed to offer 20 free raffle tickets for every two (2) reservations made at the same time. You and your spouse, significant other, another club member or fishing buddy will receive 20 raffle tickets just for making your reservation together before December 31, 2014. So make sure to take advantage of this incentive and make your reservation now.
The upcoming event is particularly special as it will serve to celebrate a major milestone: The 50th Anniversary of the Flycasters of San Jose! Portions of the evening will be set aside to celebrate this significant milestone. And now, you have a special incentive to make your reservation early. As always, there will be some high value bucket raffle and silent auction prizes for you to win as we have offered in recent banquets.
Be sure to look for the Prize List on the Flycasters web site in December as well as the list of our generous Donors with a hot link to the donor’s web site. Use that opportunity to familiarize yourself with the many great prizes you will have the opportunity to win.
You can make your reservation online using PayPal by going to the Flycasters web site, www.flycasters.org, then go to the “Meetings” tab to get to the drop down menu with the “Online Store” or send in the reservation form in the Flylines along with your check or give your reservation form and check to Mike Culcasi or Chuck Hammerstad at the club meetings in November, December, or January.
Don’t miss this special event and the presentation of the club awards including the “Angler of the Year” and the highly coveted “Broken Paddle Award.” Mark January 31, 2015 on your calendars now!
Come spend the afternoon with us in the park. The park? It’s Los Gatos Creek Park on Saturday, August 23rd. The occasion? It’s a “no occasion” occasion, no fund raising or games. Just an old fashion barbeque with a few updates.
Here are the some details. We have reserved the pavilion. Dress is casual. Hors d’oeuvres and libations will be served for 2:00 until 4:00 and a full barbeque from 4:00 on. The menu will include tri-tips. chicken and ribs, salad and French bread.
There is a charge of $10.00 per person and advance reservations are a must. We will not be able to accommodate walk-ins as we must have a head count in advance.
A registration form is available in this issue of Flylines and will also be available at the July and August general meeting. Deadline for reservations August 13th.
Here is the rundown of FF101 dates that Nathan Cook could use volunteers for. These classes are held at the Santana Row Orvis store. Based on how often you help, the discount increases. Its a great opportunity to pick up some gear at a reduced price.
Nathan is offering a tiered discount like last year that is based on the number of classes someone volunteers to help out with:
1-2 classes: 30%
3-4 classes: 40%
5+ classes: 50%
Here are the dates:
Saturday Classes - 8am-10am
Sunday Classes - 9am-11am
Nathan Cook will be running the Saturday classes and the 201s and Mark Schaller will be running the Sunday classes. If they can fill the classes to capacity, there will be able to get around 270 students exposed to fly-fishing and a lot of potential new members for Flycasters.
So, check your calendar and contact Nathan to let him know when you can help. His contact info is below. Help new folks interested in fly fishing to learn and get a discount on equipment.

Flycasters annual swap meet
Better than eBay because you can see it – hold it – examine it firsthand – even try it out.
Better than Craigslist because you don’t have to deal with strangers – we’re all friends.
Better than the Flea Market because it is ONLY fly fishing gear and that’s what you really want.
Doors open at 6:30pm – Wednesday – July 9th – at the Moreland Apts Meeting Room (our regular meeting room)
Inside the tables will be stocked with fly fishing gear, fly tying material, fly fishing clothes, flies and loads of other accessories that someone else wants to sell or trade and that you may or may not be able to live without.
“How do you know you don’t need it unless you come down and see for yourself?”
Bring your own “extra” stuff to sell or trade – no fees for displaying your gear.
Remember to bring some old sheets or blankets or some butcher paper to cover the tables so we don’t scratch them up – THIS IS A REQUIREMENT FOR DISPLAYING YOUR MERCHANDISE
