I tried fly fishing on a whim in late 2022 and was immediately troutbitten. Shortly after, I joined Flycasters and connected with other women at the club’s casting ponds in Campbell. We began practicing together and growing as friends.

As our group grew, we found a mentor in Luke Sing, who generously agreed to teach us, and we became the FlyGals. Now in our second year, the FlyGals continue to learn, support one another, and fish together. We welcome all women to join us —no experience necessary—just a desire to learn and have a great time with like-minded women. I hope you, too, will be troutbitten.

I joined the Flycasters Board to “give back” to the club.  Over time, I have been the beneficiary of casting lessons, seminars, fishout experiences and other activities provided by the time and goodwill of many current and past members.  Of course, the friendships, camaraderie and sense of community are added bonuses.

As a kid I grew up dunking Pautzke’s Green Label salmon eggs for trout in the Sierras. One day, while in my late 20s, I was fishing crawlers and Power Bait in Tahoe where the Little Truckee enters Boca Reservoir. I was getting skunked but a fly fisher 30 feet away who was systematically landing fish. It was a defining moment for me to graduate to fly fishing.

I still enjoy trout fishing in the Sierras and steelheading in the Fall/ Winter. My bigger interest is salt water targets : bones, permit, dorado and tarpon.  My bucket list includes a GT and a sea run Brown. 

Tight Lines!

After many years bait fishing for trout in the mountains of Utah, I saw the movie, “A River Runs Through It” and decided to start fly fishing. I joined the San Jose Flycasters (30 years ago), took casting and fly tying lessons and then my good-natured husband drove me to Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Northern California and Canada to fly fish. He left the universe in 2024 and I had more time, so I re-joined the Flycasters and the Flygals group.  I feel so lucky to have club mentors and friends who generously share their wisdom, experience and guidance.  I worked for over 30 years (and still do some work) in the field of community and economic development.  Now I have a focus on the community of fish.
