Welcome to Flycasters of San Jose

Flycasters of San Jose is a large and active fly fishing club with a diverse set of offerings catering to fly fishers of all backgrounds and skill levels. Whether you want to learn to cast or enhance your casting skills; tie flies; build a fly rod; get involved in teaching grammar school students about the life cycle of trout; or, go on a fishing trip with a group of anglers from the club--Flycasters has you covered!

Flycasters is a non-profit social club dedicated to promoting the sport of fly fishing and protecting the waters where we fish. Founded in 1965, Flycasters is a club for all anglers who want to learn more about the art of fly fishing and improve their skills and techniques.

By joining our club, you will have fun, make new friends, build your skills, and find many opportunities to contribute to our activities. Hope to see you at one of our upcoming meetings!

Our fly fishing club is indebted to the acclaimed photographer Val Atkinson for allowing us to use the stunning images shown below in the slideshow. Val is the master of capturing with a camera the tranquility and sublime beauty of the rivers in northern California that our members count among their favorite places to fly fish.

Flycasters Spring Casting Classes get under way the weekend of April 12th

There are Beginning - Intermediate - Shooting Head - Advanced

Classes are 2 hours each day / Saturday and Sunday / for 3 consecutive weekends

A total of 12 hours of instruction

The Beginning Class is FREE the first weekend to everyone who registers, including non-members -- Students must be a member of Flycasters to complete the final 2 weekends.

All classes are free for members of Flycasters

“Presentation is everything” Understanding the mechanics of fly casting will go a long way to improving your accuracy and distance, and a more efficient casting motion will allow you to fish longer with less arm fatigue.

Tony Yap is an accomplished fly fisher, a fantastic teacher, and a very successful tournament winning fly caster, a four-time National Champion (senior Division). His list of accomplishments in competitive fly casting is truly impressive.

April 9th Meeting

Cecilia Beale

El Encuentro Lodge - Argentina

Cecilia Beale grew up at El Encuentro Lodge and now lives in the Bay Area with her family from where she helps manage sales and public relations for El Encuentro Fly fishing in the USA and the world.

She has been a passionate fly fisherwoman for as long as she can remember and been a part of the fishing world in every possible way, from waitressing from a young age and helping her mom around the house to becoming a fishing guide at the age of 15, then managing and hostessing at different lodges in Argentina and Chile. Also, had a few fishing seasons in Montana and Idaho.

El Encuentro Fly Fishing is celebrating 40 years since her parents started it, and since then has incorporated three fishing lodges to their program to share with you great varieties of water and show you around 50% of the province of Chubut, Patagonia.

She will be talking about their three destinations, highlights of fishing techniques and species, and logistics in Argentina. Feel free to ask questions along the way.
